In previous articles, we explored the importance of the Perfect Product Name and the Perfect Description. Now it’s time for the next step: creating the Perfect Image – a visual representation of your product that not only meets the standard, but also makes maximum impact on the digital shelf.
What is a Perfect Image?
A Perfect Image goes beyond simply following GS1 guidelines. It is the visual translation of your brand promise, designed to perform optimally in the context of e-commerce:
- Clearly recognizable on mobile devices
The image is optimized for small screens: sharp, high-contrast, and with the packaging centered. - Essential information at a glance
Four elements always come back: Brand, Product, Variety, Quantity.
See below, allthough in Dutch:Brand: Heinz
Product: French fries sauce
Variety: 25%
Quantity: 10 liters.All other information should preferably be omitted.
- Consistency across brands
A Perfect Image conveys recognizability across all variants. Customers see at a glance: this is from brand X.
Below you can see a Perfect Image of French fry sauce and a regular packshot of the same French fry sauce. In the regular packshot, ‘25% oil’ and ‘10 l’ are illegible. And on mobile devices, even Heinz and French Fries Sauce are unreadable.
Why is it important?
In foodservice, the digital shelf is increasingly influencing purchasing decisions. Your customer makes choices under time pressure, often based on thumbnail images. A Perfect Image:
- Increases click and conversion rates;
- Reduces the number of errors in orders;
- Strengthens your brand recognition in B2B webshops.
